Confidence

My first post of this year highlighted the importance of stoking up our CONFIDENCE at the start of whatever path we choose to set out upon. As I wrote it I thought: this topic could more than fill a book.

But I already had eight books in the pipeline that I am working on. However, serendipity soon delivered two excellent books already written by others who know the subject far better than I do. What's more, (at the time of writing this) you can download both books for free. The download links are at the end of this post.

The first book that found me is written by top confidence coach Kevin Burch.
Kevin wrote Instant Public Speaking Confidence specially for those who dread the prospect of speaking in public. That's most of us.

With no fluff, Kevin shares and fully explains four simple techniques for turning fear into confidence. These are well-proven methods, derived from ancient martial arts and from modern scientific studies. They can easily be applied to any situation in which confidence is called for, not just public speaking.

It turns out that Kevin lives just an hour away from where I am on the south coast of England. Yet, I found out about him via a friend in Melbourne, Australia. It really is a "small world" we live in these days.

The other book, Naturally Confident: Myths, Mistakes and Secrets of Rock-Solid Confidence, is by Todd Sedelmeier. It's a much longer book, but you won't want to put it down until you have finished it. It is worth reading just to hear Todd's own story. Take a look at him as he is now:
Would you ever even dream that this man used to be a suicidal, hopeless alcoholic? Not only did Todd clean himself up, he now lives on a paradise island in the Carribean, and millionaires pay top dollar for his personal coaching. But he remains a lovely man with deep empathy for those of us still crushed by or struggling with our challenges.

In his book, Todd shares things he learned the tough way, things you will not find anywhere else. He gets right to the roots of what real confidence is: not something we need to build up or "fake", but something we are all born with. Think about it. When did you last meet a new-born child who lacked the confidence to yell out loud?

The trouble is, our natural confidence gets smothered as we grow up. And not just by the "bad" things that happen to us. Todd points out how it can often result from things we did right, but which somehow turned out all wrong in the eyes of our authority figures.

Todd shows how we can rediscover the true confidence that is our birth-right. And his methods are quick. They are also devilishly effective. I know. They have taken me to a whole new level of freedom from the terrified child that lived on inside of me until quite recently. What Todd also does is blast away many of the myths surrounding confidence, and explains why they do not work, a real eye-opener.

At the time of writing, Todd is giving away for free the pre-launch version of his book. It will still be worth every cent of the $27 he is planning on charging for the finished version.
